CSF Student Bio - Charlotte Biron

Charlotte Biron, 2012 Seymour Award Finalist

In the arts, Charlotte shines as both a ballet dancer and a viola player and has been recognized as a festival finalist with the Southern California School band Orchestra Association as well as a California Orchestra Director's Association award winner. In serving her community, Charlotte has served both as a Santa Monica Public Library Peer Youth Tutor and a knitting teacher assistant during her four years of high school. She has also worked with Circle of Friends, a group dedicated to promoting disabled student awareness. Speaking of awareness, Charlotte is devoted to Santa Monica Community Activism through the program Neighbor's Unite as well as being a volunteer with the Sierra Club's "Beyond Coal" campaign. She has also served as president of the Santa Monica High Solar Alliance club. For her efforts she has received the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District commendation, and the Santa Monica City Activism Commendation as well as the Presidential Environmental Youth Award.

Maturity, grace, intelligence and culture only begin to describe Charlotte Biren says Julie Honda, adviser for Delian's, the Academic Honor Society adviser at Santa Monica High School. From her involvement as an officer in Delians, to her being the principal violist for two of her school's internationally renowned orchestras, Charlotte demonstrates excellent organization, collaboration and passion in her endeavors.

Writing about this event she admits, I felt so proud when people I did not know came up to me and thanked me for being the girl on the bike who wanted to improve our world. Charlotte plans to major in ecology or environmental science at Brown University
